The fifth-generation Discovery, internally L462, was unveiled on 28 September 2016 and went on sale in Britain in February 2017. Built on an aluminium architecture shared with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, it is the first Discovery with a unibody structure rather than a body-on-frame design, up to 480 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, with a much rounder shape, a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox and coil springs on base trims. It returned the Discovery name to the American market after the LR3 and LR4. Production moved to Slovakia in 2019 and a facelift was launched in November 2020.
