The Discovery 4, called the LR4 across North America and the Middle East, was a thorough update of the Discovery 3, unveiled in summer 2009 and on sale in Britain on 1 September that year. It kept the Integrated Body Frame and air suspension but gained new lights, a restyled front, major interior upgrades and new Gen III engines: the 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel TDV6 and SDV6 and a 5.0-litre direct-injection V8. An eight-speed ZF gearbox followed in 2012. Its one millionth Discovery was built in March 2012, and a 25th anniversary XXV edition appeared in 2014.
