General Motors, the owners of Isuzu Motor Cars, provided the engines for the export only diesel CJ-7 that the Ohio factory made, in production from 1980 to 1982, with an Isuzu C240 engine, a T176 transmission and a Dana 300 transfer case and typically 4.1 ratio narrow track axles. The 1981 gasoline CJ-7 continued with the narrow track Dana 30 front axle and AMC 20 rear axle that were used through that year.
