The 1978 Cherokee added the Golden Eagle graphics package, which was offered in 1978 and 1979 as a trim and graphics option, and continued with AMC six and V8 engines. It was a full size SUV based on the Wagoneer and built in Toledo, Ohio. Dana 44 axles were used both front and rear at least through 1979, and a gear driven Dana 20 transfer case with a 2.03 to 1 low range went with the manual gearbox.
