The tailfins were largely truncated for 1962 and topped with elongated, streamlined gunsight taillights, the front grille was split as on the 1955 and 1956 models, and a large round eagle hood ornament was fitted for the first time. A slimmer TorqueFlite A727 automatic transmission allowed a smaller floor hump. The year closed Imperial's dedicated assembly plant, and later Imperials were built with Chryslers at Jefferson Avenue. Production totaled 14,337.
