Styling changes for 1958 were limited to the front grille and bumper, and quad headlights became standard. The 1958 Imperial is credited with introducing cruise control, called Auto Pilot and also offered on several Chrysler models, and power door locks were a new option. Sales slipped to 16,133 in a recession year, and dealers were frustrated that buyers called the car a Chrysler Imperial, because Imperial still sold through Chrysler dealers and lacked the prestige of Cadillac and Lincoln.
