Evolutionary styling gave the 1972 Imperial completely new sheet metal, with a bigger, heavier look, a rounder side profile without a character line, an imposing new front end and vertical teardrop taillights for the first time, with eagle shield side marker lights. Sales increased to 15,796. Two all black LeBaron sedans were delivered to the US Secret Service and converted into limousines for presidential use, and both were used as late as 1981, carrying Ronald Reagan and his staff.
