American Motors gave the 1956 Wasp and Hornet more character by handing the design to Richard Arbib, who applied a V shape throughout the car and used tri tone paint, an egg crate grille split by a bold V and wedge shaped parking lamp surrounds. The plan did not excite buyers. The Wasp was offered only as a four door sedan in one Super trim level, and sales fell to 2,519 cars in its final year of production.
