Honda Insight (first generation)

Automobiles

The first-generation Insight, chassis ZE1, grew out of the Honda J-VX concept car shown at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, and Honda put it on sale in Japan during November 1999, the first production vehicle with its Integrated Motor Assist system. In December 1999 it became the first hybrid available in North America. It was a subcompact two seater liftback with an aluminum monocoque, a coefficient of drag of 0.25 and a 1.0 liter three cylinder engine, and it was the most fuel efficient EPA certified gasoline fueled vehicle until 2015. It was not meant to sell in large numbers, and over 7 years Honda's global sales added up to 17,020 units. Each model year has its own page.
