A CVT variant of the Insight, like the one in the Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Logo, became available from the 2001 model, announced in October 2000. Two trims were offered in the second year of production: a manual transmission with air conditioning, and a continuously variable transmission with air conditioning. The CVT equipped Insight is classified as a super low emissions vehicle, with the California Air Resources Board giving the CVT model a SULEV rating.
