Honda redesigned the CR-X completely, late in 1987, for the 1988 model. The wheelbase increased by 10 cm overall, the length by 3.2 inches and the width by nearly 2 inches, and Honda abandoned the original torsion bar front and beam axle rear suspension in favour of a 4 wheel double wishbone suspension, bringing improvements in handling as well as passenger and cargo space. In the US three trim levels were available, the standard, the HF high fuel efficiency model and the Si. The CR-X received a mild refresh for the 1990 model year, and the VTEC models arrived outside North America in September 1989. Each model year has its own page.
