The LC series appeared in October 1969 with a range of four cylinder or six cylinder engines and won Wheels magazine's Car of the Year award for 1969. In July 1971 a bigger overhead cam 1.6 liter engine with 80 horsepower, also sourced from Vauxhall in the United Kingdom, was added. The LC series went on to be raced by Holden in Australian touring car racing. The LC replaced the HB at the end of 1969.
