The 2004 Prius was named Motor Trend Car of the Year and earned five stars for the driver and four for the passenger in the American frontal crash test. A second Japanese plant, Fujimatsu at Kariya, began building it in October 2004, and the American battery pack came with a 100,000 mile warranty. It was model year 2 of 6 in the Toyota Prius (second generation, XW20), 2003 to 2008, coming after the 2003 model year and before the 2005 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Prius run from 1997 to 2025.
