The second generation Prizm debuted in 1992 for the 1993 model year, gaining more room, a driver's side airbag and a new 1.8 liter four cylinder engine optional on the LSi. With the larger engine came a rear stabilizer bar, wider tires and an optional automatic transmission with four speeds instead of three. The sedan was built at NUMMI in Fremont, California, with the Toyota Corolla. The 1993 Prizm was the first of the second generation, built at NUMMI.
