The first generation was unveiled at the 2012 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham with a 2.2 litre Duratorq turbodiesel in three outputs, replaced in 2017 by a 2.0 litre EcoBlue diesel. It added mild hybrid and plug in hybrid versions in 2019, a Nugget campervan, and was sold in China from 2016. Its model years run from 2012 to 2022. The Transit Custom was Ford's mid size van, in the Transit range between the Transit Connect and the larger Transit.
