The 1968 Thunderbird introduced the new 385 series big block Thunder Jet 429 cubic inch V8 with a four barrel carburetor, which like many Ford engines of the time was conservatively rated at 360 horsepower. The engine made these among the quickest and fastest Thunderbirds ever built, in spite of their larger size and greater curb weight, and the car continued as a two door landau or a four door with suicide doors.
