A new Taunus, the Taunus Cortina or TC, was introduced in 1970 as a two or four door sedan or a five door wagon, called the Turnier. It replaced the P6, which had been the smaller front wheel drive Taunus, and it used the same basic construction as the British Cortina Mk III. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford.
