The 1992 model year was the Sierra's final full year in production before the launch of the Mondeo. The 1.6 liter Pinto engine was finally dropped, replaced by a CVH unit of similar capacity, ending the Pinto after twenty one years in the Cortina, Taunus and Sierra. The dashboard got a new instrument surround that mirrored the new Escort and Orion, all trim levels got the high series instrument cluster, and the Mondeo was unveiled in November.
