The S-Max was voted European Car of the Year for 2007 in November 2006 after receiving many positive reviews. Ford had planned to sell it in Japan under Mazda, but that stopped being possible when Mazda split from Ford. It had heated screens, parking sensors and dual climate control as standard. Ford marketed it both as a multi purpose vehicle and as a sports activity vehicle, aimed at buyers who wanted space without giving up driving fun.
