From 2001 the Mondeo established itself as Britain's most popular car in its class, a position it held every year from then on. It arrived in Mexico in 2001, replacing the Contour, and was sold there until 2007, and in Taiwan the second generation was produced at Zhongli from 2001 and sold as the Mondeo Metrostar by Ford Lio Ho. The Mazda derived 1.8 and 2.0 liter Duratec engines replaced the Zetec, with a 3.0 liter V6 for the ST220.
