From the 1997 launch in Latin America the Ka was substantially similar to the European Ka, differing only in levels of equipment and trim. At launch the Ka was created as a single model with a number of production options, but anti lock braking was only added as an option in January 1997. The Ka was lauded in the motoring press for its handling, under the supervision of Richard Parry Jones. Its New Edge styling was overseen by Jack Telnack.
