In 2000 the Ikon was built at Ford's factory in Chennai and sold in India, and in South America and China where it was called the Ford Fiesta Sedan. A seven seat Ikon Estate that was presented in March 1999 had been cancelled soon afterwards because the packaging gave it poor proportions. The Ikon was a small Ford sedan built on the Fiesta platform for markets where buyers wanted a sedan, such as India and South Africa. Ford sold the same basic design under the Fiesta and Ikon names depending on the country.
