The Ikon was launched in New Delhi in November 1999 as the four door sedan version of the fourth generation Fiesta. It was powered by a 1.3 litre single overhead camshaft petrol engine with electronic fuel injection producing 69 horsepower, and it was designed specifically for Indian buyers. Ford sold the same basic design under the Fiesta and Ikon names depending on the country. The Ikon was a small Ford sedan built on the Fiesta platform for markets where buyers wanted a sedan, such as India and South Africa.
