In 1966 the 7 liter Mk II prototypes dominated. Mk IIs finished first, second and third at Daytona, which was run for the first time as a 24 hour race, GT40s took all three top places at Sebring, and at Le Mans in June Ford achieved its desired victory with a one two three finish, breaking Ferrari's winning streak. The finish was clouded by controversy over the order of the first two cars. Ford won two FIA titles that year.
