1979 was the Granada's best year in Britain, where it peaked as the seventh best selling car with more than 50,000 sales. The smallest 1.9 liter engine had been underpowered and was supplanted by the more powerful 2.1, presented as the Granada GLD in March 1979 at Geneva. The iS and iGL were replaced by the 2.8i GLS. Ford received authorization to sell the Granada and Taunus as well, though competing manufacturers accused it of selling below cost to lower tariffs.
