In July 1976 Ford introduced the XC Falcon, the first model to comply with the new pollution regulations specified under Australian Design Rule 27A. This led to locally produced Cleveland V8s and the introduction of the cross flow six cylinder engine. The XC also introduced the country's first locally produced family sedans with a suspension designed around radial ply tyres, known as Touring Suspension. In 1978 Ford introduced the limited edition Cobra, using the last 400 hardtop coupe bodyshells. Its model years run from 1976 to 1978.
