In 1978, inspired by a dominating one two finish for Falcon hardtops at the 1977 Hardie Ferodo 1000, Ford introduced the limited edition Cobra, which used the last 400 hardtop coupe bodyshells, each individually numbered, with Globe 15 inch alloy road wheels, four wheel disc brakes and a distinctive white and blue colour scheme. The Touring Suspension was made standard on all sedans and hardtops in the 1978 XC half facelift. The Falcon was usually outsold by Holden's Kingswood until 1978.
