For 2005 the Expedition received new roof rails replacing the traditional sliding cross bar roof racks, and a new high end Limited trim level replaced the Eddie Bauer Premier model, with chrome accented roof rails, chrome clad aluminum wheels and power folding assisted stowable side steps. King Ranch trim was also introduced in 2005. A new four speed automatic transmission, the 4R75E, featured fully electronic Smart Shift technology.
