The second generation Expedition was launched in May 2002 for the 2003 model year and featured a four wheel independent long travel suspension, the first full size SUV to use a fully independent suspension. AdvanceTrac electronic stability control was introduced for 2003 as an option. Before the model year ended, Ford updated the running boards on the Eddie Bauer trim, which had earlier had black ones, back to Arizona beige.
