For 2002 the instrument panel of the Excursion was slightly revised, gaining a digital odometer and a transmission temperature gauge, and the seat materials were changed. The Excursion was the Sierra Club's target as the Ford Valdez, and it could not be rated by the government for fuel economy because of its weight. The Excursion was a heavy duty Ford sport utility vehicle built on the Super Duty truck chassis. Ford made it at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville alongside the F-Series Super Duty.
