The last standard Escort model to be introduced, in 1997, was the GTi, the only GTi badged Ford ever sold in Europe. It used the existing 115 PS 1.8 liter Zetec E engine of the rest of the range but had a body kit borrowed from the cancelled RS2000, part leather seats and ABS as standard, and it was offered as a three or five door hatchback and an estate. In Chile the sixth generation was sold as the EuroEscort to avoid confusion with the American Escort.
