The Mark II Escort went on sale in January 1975, and the squarer shape came with a range that included L, GL, Ghia, Sport, RS Mexico and RS2000 models. The RS2000, with its slanted polyurethane nose and Pinto engine, was announced in Britain in March and introduced in Germany in August. A 1.6 liter Ghia of 1975 made 84 horsepower. The car shared its floorpan with the Mark I, which meant leaf spring rear suspension and a reputation for cramped oddment space.
