The SEL trim, discontinued after the 2013 model year, was reintroduced for 2018 in the Escape line, which was offered with front wheel drive in the S trim and front or all wheel drive in SE, SEL and Titanium. The third generation Escape was by now in its sixth model year and had been refreshed for 2017 with the 1.5 liter turbo engine, Sync 3 and extra driver assist features. The hybrid of the second generation had been indirectly replaced by the C-Max Hybrid, and the 3.0 liter V6 had been dropped.
