The 1976 Custom 500 was only available for fleet customers in the United States, as consumer market full size Fords had been consolidated under the LTD nameplate in 1975, and the Custom 500 continued to be sold to retail customers in Canada. It was the basic full size Ford with an inline six or small block V8 engine, sold alongside the Ranch Wagon. The Custom served Ford as a fleet and economy nameplate.
