The 1989 Country Squire continued with the front fascia update of its LTD Crown Victoria sedan counterpart introduced for 1988, with larger head restraints on the new front seats, a V8 engine and simulated woodgrain trim. The role of the family towing vehicle in the Ford product line was being split between the Aerostar and the larger Club Wagon, and the new Explorer, as buyers shifted to sport utility vehicles. The Country Squire was the top level Ford station wagon, distinguished by woodgrain bodyside trim.
