New value priced base models were introduced in late 1997 for both Contour and Mystique, and traction control was dropped as an option. The 1997 Contour added an interior trunk light, steering wheels that now tilted, and dropped heated mirrors as an option and remote fuel door release. The SVT Contour, a Special Vehicle Team model with an upgraded 2.5 liter V6, began its production in 1997 and ran to 2000. It was offered in GL, LX and SE trims with Zetec four or Duratec V6 power.
