1980 was the last year of the German RS and the British X Pack, performance packages for the 3.0 liter Capri. Between 1980 and 1983 Ford launched the Fiesta XR2, Escort XR3 and XR3i and Sierra XR4i, hot hatchbacks which sold well and took buyers from the affordable coupe. The Capri 3.0 S was meanwhile used extensively in the television series The Professionals in the early 1980s, driven by the characters Bodie and Doyle.
