From July 1981 to September 1982 German RS dealers marketed a limited edition left hand drive Werksturbo model capable of 220 km/h, based on the 3.0 S with widened Series X bodywork and Ford Motorsport spoilers. In motorsport a Zakspeed Group 5 version of the Mk III, which kept little of the Capri, won the 1981 Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft title with Klaus Ludwig. The 3.0 liter engine option disappeared at the end of the year.
