The front wheel drive Ford Windstar was introduced for the 1995 model year as the Aerostar's intended replacement, but Ford sold both lines concurrently through the 1997 model year. The Aerostar was available with a five speed manual until 1995, nearly exclusively in cargo vans and XL trim, and all of its automatic transmissions were four speed overdrive units. The Aerostar Sport option package continued for a few more years.
