Dodge took over the Shelby Lancer for the 1988 model year, building it at the same Sterling Heights plant as regular Lancers and selling it as the Dodge Lancer Shelby, an option package on the Lancer ES that was not numbered or titled as a Shelby. It used the ES sport suspension and rear drums, added white and black to the red paint choice, and cost 16,530 dollars. Dodge built 279 Lancer Shelbys in 1988.
