The Charger returned for 2006 after a twenty year absence, now as a four door sedan on the rear drive LX platform instead of a two door car. It was the first rear drive sedan Dodge had offered since the Diplomat ended in 1989. A Daytona R/T special edition with retro decals and High Impact colors debuted at the Chicago Auto Show, and the SRT8 was the top trim in the range. It was the return of a name that had been unused for twenty years.
