The first Charger was a fastback built on the intermediate Coronet and introduced in the middle of the 1966 model year as Dodge's answer to the Rambler Marlin and the pony cars. It had a full length center console, four individual bucket seats that folded to carry cargo, and a grille with hidden rotating headlights. Sales were 37,344 in the half year of 1966 and fell by more than half in 1967, and it was seen as a luxurious fastback rather than a muscle car. Its model years run from 1966 to 1967.
