Dodge introduced the Challenger name again for the 1978 model year, now on a rebadged Mitsubishi Galant Lambda coupe sold through Dodge dealers as a captive import and first called the Dodge Colt Challenger. It was a compact economy coupe that kept the frameless hardtop styling of the old Challenger but used a small four cylinder engine. Plymouth sold the same car as the Sapporo. It was sold as a captive import from Mitsubishi, which marketed the same car elsewhere as the Sapporo or the Scorpion.
