The 1956 Fireflite was best known for its long, tapering tailfins, often emphasized by a two tone finish, and a gold and white Fireflite convertible was the official pace car for the 1956 Indianapolis 500, with between 390 and 426 pace car convertibles produced according to club research. A longer stroke gave a 330 cubic inch V8 of 230 horsepower, and the Fireflite made up over a quarter of DeSoto's 1956 sales.
