In 1955 Chrysler dropped the six cylinder Powermaster series and added the Fireflite as the top line, which pushed the Firedome down to entry level while it kept its V8, enlarged with a bigger bore and more power, and gained many features the Powermaster lacked. Power rose again for 1956. A three speed manual gearbox was standard though few were built, and the Powerflite automatic was optional. Its model years run from 1955 to 1956.
