For 1955 the Firedome was demoted to entry level status when Chrysler dropped the six cylinder Powermaster and added the Fireflite above it, but it kept its V8, whose displacement rose from 276 to 291 cubic inches with a larger bore and a boost to 185 horsepower. It came with many features and interior upgrades that the Powermaster had lacked, and the two speed Powerflite automatic was advertised as optional.
