After the 1957 model year the Mark II was discontinued and the hand built coupe was replaced by a rebranded Lincoln. For 1969 Ford revived the Mark series with the Continental Mark III, leading to five generations that ended with the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII. The Allen Park plant then became the base of the Edsel. It was marketed against Rolls Royce and Bentley as an American flagship, with a Lincoln V8 engine. The Continental Mark II was a hand assembled luxury coupe built by Ford at Allen Park in Michigan in small numbers.
