The 1959 model year saw the Hemi engines replaced by Chrysler's new Golden Lion wedge head V8 of 413 cubic inches, which Chrysler called lion hearted and which remained exclusive to the 300 and Imperial. Power stayed at about 380 horsepower while the engine weighed 103 pounds less and cost less to build. The 300E had engine turned instrument cluster faces, with a speedometer that read to 150 miles per hour, in a car that kept its standard luxury features.
