For 1988 the Nova added rear shoulder belts, a rear window defogger and an AM FM stereo radio as standard equipment. Chevrolet introduced a sport model, the Nova Twin Cam, fitted with the double overhead cam 1.6 liter four that raised output to 110 horsepower, 36 more than the standard engine. The 1988 model year was the last use of the Nova nameplate by Chevrolet before it was renamed the Geo Prizm for 1989.
