For 2000 Chevrolet again called upon GM Motorsports for design inspiration. The Super Sport moniker returned, replacing the Z34 designation of the fifth generation, which was a Lumina coupe. The sixth generation Monte Carlo is based on the Monte Carlo Intimidator concept car, presented in 1997, and it continued the line of two door coupes that Chevrolet had revived in 1995 for its personal luxury market.
